Biomaterials: a way to decarbonize mobility

The automotive industry has embarked on its transformation towards decarbonization, and there's still a long way to go. But the good news for researchers and engineers is that there are plenty of exciting subjects to get to grips with. Clearly, materials are one of them.

Indeed, until now, the weight of the use phase was predominant in the life cycle analysis of a vehicle, compared to the manufacturing or end-of-life phases. But the massive electrification of vehicles, and the technologies employed, are shifting the focus of impact to the manufacturing phase. It is therefore absolutely essential to work on the environmental impact of the materials used in vehicles, and it seems to us that biomaterials can provide very interesting solutions from this point of view.

That's why NextMove's Materials, Comfort and Environments expert committee, in partnership with the Bioeconomy for Change competitiveness cluster (formerly IAR) and Polymeris, has organized this conference dedicated to biomaterials for mobility.

We'll give you a comprehensive overview of the subject, including background information, agricultural issues, processing and characterization methods, a few examples of applications and, last but not least, end-of-life reprocessing.

• • The Synthesis Division develops new products from the laboratory to the pilot plant.
  • The Materials Division analyzes polymers and evaluates their properties in terms of mechanical resistance and durability.
  • The Processing Division optimizes polymer performance by compounding and testing their suitability for transformation into molded or extruded objects or coatings, either in real life or with the help of digital simulation.
